Requiem for a dream (and no, this is not about the movie of director Darren Aronofsky)

Today I was driving 36 minutes from my place to go to the notary. Not for my will (and not of my own will) but for the closing down of my business. After many discussions with some of my family members and friends, I came to the conclusion: I am at the end of my dream and my illusions. To make it easier on me, my sister told me: "You will save the money you are giving to the accountant yearly in the years to come." Reason had power over illusion. What was meant to be a success is dead. Whille driving, I listen to a rendition of the Mozart's Requiem with conductor René Jacobs. The wonderful voices and instruments resound with the interjections of the directions from the GPS, telling me where to go. It hurts but here are some lessons I have learned from my failure:

  1. No matter how your friends may support you, your business is not on their priority list.

  2. Everyone wants to sell you insurance when you start your own business.

  3. When you think something will go smoothly you are going to wake up one day.

  4. When you are not a business person per say, change direction and stay away.

  5. Lack of knowledge and information will cost you money.

  6. Smiling is a beautiful tool but keeping doing is better.

  7. Generosity without making profit is not wise.

You might smile and think how can someone be so naive. I smile too. I am still my best friend and sincerely, it is better to try than to stay on shore. At least when you realize it is not worth anymore, you can dismount and change horse.
