The Backstage of Your Voice
Can I tell you something honest? I'm not the big star. Never have been.
I've spent over 30 years in this world of singing, acting, coaching — and along the way, I've also had all sorts of side jobs and little businesses to keep things going. That's just how it goes for most of us in the arts, if we're being real about it. There's this idea that you either "make it" or you don't, and I've never fit neatly into that story.
But you know what I do have? A deep, stubborn love for quality. For doing things right, even when nobody's watching.
And that's really where "The Backstage of Your Voice" comes from.
Because here's the thing — the magic never happens under the spotlight. It happens before. In the warm-up. In the breath you take before you speak. In the quiet, unglamorous work of getting ready — the part nobody claps for.
I think about all the years I spent preparing before a show, before a class, before a recording session, and honestly, that backstage time taught me more than any stage ever did. It's where the real craft lives. Where you become someone who can be trusted with a voice, a room, a story.
So when I talk about "your voice, your story, your stage," I'm not talking about fame. I'm talking about you showing up as fully and honestly as you can — whether that's on a podcast, in a meeting, on a Zoom call, or in front of an audience of three people in a small theatre.
You don't need to be a star to deserve good preparation. You just need to care about what you're putting out into the world.
And I do. That's the whole point.
If you want a little help with that backstage work — the breathing, the presence, the getting-ready-to-be-seen part — I put everything I know into a little guide called Before You Put Your Foot on Stage. Your own quiet warm-up companion, whenever you need it.
And if you do, go to my store! :)
